WELCOME TO HELEN AYLING YOGA

I want to share the joy of yoga with you, and help you find strength, stillness and peace.

I have been practising Iyengar Yoga for 26 years and I have been teaching for 15 years. I am certified to teach at level 3, Iyengar Yoga Asana and Pranayama. I am certified to teach one to one, I teach in person and if required online.I was one of the teachers selected for a pilot scheme to teach remedial yoga to people with Long Covid. This project was conducted for 10 weeks in late 2021 with the IY (uk).

I have completed 2 years of a 5 year Therapy training course at IYIMV in London with Stephanie Quirk and whilst I am still training to be qualified in teaching Therapy, I am able to help and facilitate your practice of yoga with most health issues. I am qualified to teach students through pregnancy.

Whilst people assume flexibility and strength are natural to ex-dancers and ex-gymnasts, the Iyengar method is a progressive and structured system of Yoga. I did not begin yoga as a flexible person but the progression comes through dedicated practice and attending many classes, workshops and trainings by senior teachers over the years.

What is Iyengar Yoga?

The Iyengar® assessment system is rigorous, teachers do not pass simply because they have paid to train! Many Iyengar Yoga teachers have passed and failed one or more times and most find that the training and subsequent assessments lead to knowledge and clarity in teaching. We see the training process as a learning process which exceeds the desire for a pass mark. Our system is renowned for excellency in teaching, The IY(uk) is responsible for maintaining standards of teaching of Iyengar yoga.

I first started Yoga for stress and was amazed to see that the strength, stability and flexibility I gained in my body and brought the same to my mind. The sanctuary I find within my practice enables me to live a happier more fulfilled life on a psychological and physical level. I am committed to sharing this joy with others encouraging them to find strength, stillness and peace through yoga.

I have been fortunate to have been able to study and train with the Iyengar family in Pune, India, I continue to study with the Iyengar family online, and with Senior and Advanced teachers in the Iyengar system here in the UK.

BKS Iyengar

BKS Iyengar or Guruji as his students call him, was the author of many books on yoga practice and philosophy including Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, and Light on Life.

He is often referred to as "the father of modern yoga". His development of Yoga Props was the biggest contribution to the practice of Yoga for all in the 20th Century. He wrote prolifically and his quotes on Yoga, Practice and Life are often used by many to illustrate the holistic, scientific, intellectual and spiritual aspects of Yoga. As well as giving inspiration and instruction to students of all types of Yoga all over the world. His translation and practice of Yoga and commentary in Yoga, and his commentary on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and Yoga philosophy are a definitive guide for all.
